Keith Lipson and Friends

This is a news flash of an upcoming concert in Beijing with clarinet player Keith Lipson and friends.

Time: April 15th (Wed.) 8pm
Venue: Peng Hao Theatre
Programme: Music from the Void-All Clarinet Concert

Covering a wide variety of genres, the performances will be dedicated to a singular vision: sharing intimate chamber music in a small, informal setting unlike anywhere else in Beijing. Sometimes the audience will be introduced to older musical classics in a new way.

Keith Lipson and friends will be performing an eclectic program of works. The pieces to be performed will showcase a range of styles and genres, from Debussy’s impressionistic Asian-inflected Premier Rhapsody for Clarinet to Bernstein’s jazz inspired Sonata for clarinet and piano.

The solo clarinet will also be featured in works by Stravinsky and Messiaen. A special highlight of the program will be a new work composed by Eli Marshall for solo clarinet, violin, ‘cello and piano, which was loosely inspired by improvisations of saxophone great John Coltrane. Keith will be joined by Gao Can (violin), Zhu Mu (cello) and Michelle Yip (piano) who are also members of the Beijing New Music Ensemble, and special guest Israeli pianist Einat Fabrikant.

In addition to these musical selections, Keith will share some of his favorite passages of Laozi seminal work Daodejing read in both the original Chinese and English.

Igor Stravinsky: Three Pieces for Solo Clarinet
